Allow
me to introduce myself. My name is Miriam Young and Planting
Stories is my business.
I am the
person who will carry out the services described on this
website, assuring you of personal attention, professional
service and commitment to achieving the best possible results.
Why do I
do this? Because I truly enjoy communicating information
between the people who want to tell it and the people who want
to hear it.
Why can
I do it well? Firstly because it is my passion, and
secondly because I have been a media professional for over 15
years with 10 years’ experience in the horticulture industry. My
career to date has given me extensive knowledge of media
proceedings and sales & marketing techniques which I combine
with my experience and international contact network in the
horticulture industry to provide a unique resource.
I pride myself on being hardworking,
adaptable and articulate both as a writer and communicator. If
you haven't already worked with me you'll just have to take my
word for that, but if you want some reference points to my work
you can start by taking a good look through this website and
www.gardenpress.info, both of which I have built with my
'bare hands' (even though web design isn't one of my areas of
expertise!) and
PlantConcierge.com which I devised and directed creation of. Also
check out articles published on
www.plantspotters.com. In addition to these, the links below
give you access to a small selection of press releases and
published articles I have written.

I grew up in
England, gained a nice set of qualifications but decided to
ignore everything I'd studied and become a fashion designer.
Despite good demand for my creations I hadn't yet developed
financial business sense, so with bills mounting up I stepped over into the
'real' world by taking a job selling advertising space for my
local newspaper. And never looked back!
One thing led to another, and I developed a career in London as
an advertising sales manager at leading publishing houses such
as Dennis Publishing and EMAP. An interest in making the news
pages rather than selling them resulted in my moving to a record
company to become a press officer.
After taking some time out for a spot of travelling, I settled
in The Netherlands in 1997. Here, I eventually became
responsible for international marketing and PR activities for
perennials exporter Darwin Plants.
Evidence of this is still very much visible on Darwin
PlantSpotters promotional material and website
www.plantspotters.com, which was short-listed for Website of
the Year in 2004 by the Garden Writers Guild (Now The Garden
Media Guild).
In 2006 I decided to strike out on my own again as an
independent publicist, for which purpose I established Planting
Stories.
Aside from the green industry I also carry out freelance
copywriting and editing for a broad range of well and lesser
known brands.
